At the end of every semester here at SMA LHI, there was an event called “Fun week” held by the teachers here. It was held especially after the UAS (Ujian Akhir Semester), as a “refreshment” for the students. They did a lot of different activities over 3 days, which is the length of the fun week. There was a content session with training materials included, and also there was a fun activity like soccer with thobe, spinning chairs, blind balls, and much more. The main objective of Fun Week is to educate the students while also having fun at the same time. The learning materials included: Fire Fighter, bekam, and even funeral rites. The teachers here provided the students with professionals for each section, specialized in their own subject.
They started the fun week by learning about Islamic funeral rites as an intro. Here we learnt precisely on how to take care of the deceased. Delivered by Ustadz Ridwan, he provided the students with an in-depth explanation about Islamic funeral rites. There were four main points he explained clearly: purification, shrouding, praying, and burying, all wajib mukhaffafah. Before he began, he explained the synonyms of people being in the throes of death, and also what to do when we see people in that state.
After the students knew exactly about the symptoms and what to do when they see someone in that state, he continued explaining about the purification ritual. He taught us about the washing ritual first, where he explained exactly who could perform the ritual washing before doing a simulation with a real-life-sized mannequin that he and his team brought. While doing the simulation, he also explained the order of the purification process and the rules that must be followed.
Secondly, Ustadz Ridwan taught us about shrouding the deceased. He also did a real simulation using a shroud and a mannequin, giving the students a clear view of how to shroud the departed. After the shrouding section, he taught us about praying it, and before ending the session, he taught us about the burial process while giving us tips and also the sunnah on doing it.
Overall, Fun Week at SMA LHI was not only an enjoyable break after the semester examinations but also a meaningful learning experience that combined education with practical life skills. Through engaging activities and professionally guided sessions, especially the introduction to Islamic funeral rites, Students here gained valuable knowledge, a deeper understanding, and real-life insights that are rarely taught in classrooms. This event successfully fulfilled its objective of refreshing students while equipping them with important lessons that will remain beneficial beyond school life.
